In the Modiin Rotary Club Young Speaker Competition, Omer Kedem from Inbalim School took first place in Hebrew, and Michal Damari from the Maoz Maccabim won first in English.

This year, fifth- and sixth-grade students also experienced the challenge of writing speeches, a process that lasted several months, at the end of which seven of them stood in front of an audience and delivered their speech for four minutes – all in the Young Speaker Competition, which is organized by the Rotary organization.

The competition, which has become an impressive and exciting community event in which dozens of adults and children participate, is the initiative of the Modiin Rotary Club, a venture led by club member Billy Ron.

Last week, the excited contestants, their classmates, parents, school principals and teaching staff attended the finals of the competition.

The distinguished team of judges was led by Sharon Mizrahi, Deputy Director of Pisga, Dina Rosen, English teacher at Yeshivat Lapid High school, and Leah Persi, member of the Modi'in Rotary Club.

One after another, the competing children spoke on topics close to their hearts –co-operation, integration of those with special needs, love of the country, leadership, cyber safety, acceptance of differences and self-esteem. Each speech was rated according to different categories by the judges.

Everyone reached the stage of declaring the winners with bated breath and after receiving a prize for their participation, the winners of the competition were announced: first place in Hebrew, Omer Kedem from Inbalim School and first place in English, Michal Damari, from Maoz Maccabim School.
