Volunteers of the municipal Search and Rescue unit underwent advanced rescue approved by the Home Front Command.
The Search and Rescue unit was established more than a decade ago, following a significant change in the perception and preparation of the municipality for crisis situations. This approach is based on the assumption that there may be a situation in which, during an emergency, of falling missiles or an earthquake in large areas of the country, the IDF forces, the Home Front Command, and the rescue forces will not be able to provide a quick and complete response to a large number of situation sites.
In such cases, the municipality is required to function independently and provide service and response to the city's residents without any assistance or support from professional emergency and rescue agencies.
This is the second unit that participated in this advanced training, and together with graduates of the first unit, amounts to over one hundred volunteers who undertook advanced professional training for four days, led by instructors from the Home Front Command and officials in the national rescue unit.
In the concluding exercise that took place at the training site at the Home Front Command in Ramla, volunteers faced complex dilemmas and situations to locate and rescue many trapped people under rubble, at a very high and professional level and with sophisticated equipment.
After completing the training, the volunteers will undergo annual service in the rescue brigade at the Home Front Command, in order to maintain readiness for any emergency scenario.
