Approved plots for Lag B'Omer bonfires

The municipality has approved designated spots for lighting bonfires; in open areas that are far from residential areas.

The security department in the municipality emphasizes that bonfires will only be allowed in designated areas, and there will be increased enforcement to prevent bonfires throughout the city, which is prohibited according to municipal law.

Lighting bonfires is permitted only on the night of May 25, after Shabbat ends, or on Sunday May 26, after 17:00.

Designated areas are at the following sites only:

  • The open area parallel to Emek HaEla Street (on its northern side) from Yehuda Maccabi to Rechov HaYaar

  • The open area parallel to Emek HaEla Street (on its northern side) from Rechov HaYaar to the "Niyar Hadera" complex.

  • It is not permitted to light bonfires in areas/lots that have not been approved for this purpose. Bonfires that are lit in prohibited areas or lots will be extinguished and those who light the fires will be fined accordingly.

  • For reasons of safety and safeguarding crowds, in cases where there will be a large crowd and a large number of bonfires that may endanger the participants, additional participants will not be permitted nor any additional bonfires.

  • You must adhere to the instructions of the fire and rescue service and act accordingly.

    Lighting the fire:

  • The boundaries of the bonfire must be demarcated with stones and fire extinguishers, buckets of water; sand or fire extinguishers must be kept nearby.

  • Do not pile the firewood high for fear of collapsing and spreading the fire.

  • Lighting the bonfire will only be done by an adult who will be responsible and watch over attendant children.

  • The bonfire will be lit only with matches, lighters and papers and not with any flammable liquid such as fuel or oil.

  • It is recommended to wear long clothes and closed shoes to light the fire.
    Do not leave a bonfire unattended.

    Staying near the bonfire

  • An adult or responsible person (over 16 yrs old) will supervise the bonfire at all times.

  • It is recommended to surround the campfire with stones to prevent children from getting close to the fire.

  • It is recommended to sit or stand at a reasonable distance - heat radiation causes damage.

  • It is recommended to wear closed shoes and wear long trousers/pants.

  • Do not play with fire or jump over it.

  • It is strictly forbidden to throw gas sprays, firecrackers or explosives into the fire.

  • The bonfire should be kept under control and be topped up gradually, add wood to the fire with the utmost care.

  • Do not pour flammable liquid of any kind towards the fire.

  • Do not touch heat conductors that come into contact with the fire.

  • Do not sleep near the fire or leave the fire unattended at any time.

    Extinguishing the fire and leaving the place:

  • Do not leave a burning fire unattended.

  • At the end of the bonfire, make sure that the fire is completely extinguished, it is recommended to cool it with water and cover it well with sand to prevent re-ignition of unextinguished embers.

    After extinguishing the fire, wait there for about 15 minutes to make sure that the fire does not rekindle.
