Immigration Absorption

As of 2019, there were approximately 11,000 immigrants residing in Modiin Maccabim Reut who have been in Israel for less than 10 years. Most of them came from the former Soviet Union, many more came from the United States, the United Kingdom and France.

Modiin Maccabim Reut serves as a hotspot for new immigrants, and the city invests resources to provide a broad infrastructure for absorption that allows the immigrants to be absorbed in the early stages, in a supportive atmosphere. The city provides Hebrew Ulpan, services from the Municipal Absorption Department, and educational frameworks that address the unique needs of the new immigrant.

The Absorption Department works in collaboration with the Jewish Agency and various non-profit organizations such as Nefesh b’Nefesh and Ezra.

The Absorption Department offers personal guidance and a “ soft landing”  by assisting new immigrants in the process of absorbtion and integrating them into their new lives in the city. The Department works in full cooperation with the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption and the Jewish Agency.

The Absorption Department provides service in English, French, Portuguese and Russian. There is a coordinator who assists immigrants on general issues such as school registration, filling out forms, classes, ulpan, understanding mail and bills.

Guiding principles

• Inclusive and integrated service with reference to all aspects of absorption on family and individual level. This is to ensure efficient and fast absorption of immigrants and to prevent continuous dependence on the formal support systems.

• Provide activities for children and adults, ongoing programs, and annual programs.

• Provide consultation and guidance to the new immigrant, promoting entrepreneurship and projects for the various immigrant populations.

• Promote projects in collaboration with the Ministry of Absorption and the various municipal departments.

• The department conducts needs-mapping among immigrants, and works to map community intervention programs.
