Archaeology and Heritage Sites

Modiin Maccabim Reut has a variety of programs to preserve the environment and heritage of the many archeological and historical sites throughout the city.
The city is planning to build a visitors center and other tourist attractions.
Givaat Titora, the site where archeologists found evidence of a settlement from 6,000 years ago, was preserved as a green area in the heart of the city.

There are wooden benches and signs explaining the history, heritage and vegetation of the area for those traveling through the site.
In April 2001, researchers in the southern part of the city discovered the ancient Hashmonean synagogue, a part of a Jewish settlement from the Hasmonean period.
The Israel Antiquities Authority estimates that this was ancient Modiin where Matityahu the Hashmonean and his sons, the leaders of the Hashmonaim Revolt lived. Researchers uncovered additional archeological sites in the hills surrounding the city, where they found evidence of highly developed communities.
